Anything that can be trained to Haul can be trained to Herd, so animals from animal mods work with no patch and no setup.\r
- Strays come home. A trained dog spots pen animals outside their pen, fetches them and ropes them back, picking up others it meets on the way. No colonist involved.\r
- Livestock defense. When a wild predator starts hunting one of your animals, your dogs charge it. They act as a pack, so several together will drive off a predator none of them could face alone.\r
- Guard posts. Assign dogs to a pen from a button on the marker. Idle dogs stand guard nearby, and the pack's combined size decides which prowling predators are turned away before they attack.\r
\r
GUARDED PASTURES\r
\r
- Put a pen marker on open ground, skip the fence, tick "Pasture" and assign dogs. The pack replaces the fence: it brings in the livestock the pasture accepts, holds the herd, barks back any animal that starts wandering off, and fetches home the ones that got away. A bigger herd needs a bigger pack.\r
- A "Reach" button sets how far the pack holds, 8 to 40 tiles, drawn as a green ring on the map. That ring is the pasture: where dogs count as on post, where predators are driven off, where strays are recalled.\r
- It reads as a pasture and not as a broken pen: no "not enclosed" alert, a working Food tab, and auto-cut that clears the trees inside the ring so grass grows back. Pens you have not declared are left alone.\r
- Optional, in the mod settings: herding without ropes. The dog circles the herd, places itself on the far side, barks, and the animals move off, several at a time. Off by default.\r
\r
ALSO\r
\r
- Dogs fetch strays even across dangerous ground during toxic fallout or an active threat, and gather pen animals for a forming caravan on their own.\r
- They bark and raise dust as they work, so you can see and hear what they are doing.\r
- With the Plowing module installed, a dog also leads draft animals out to the field and back. Harnessing needs hands, so it stays with the colonists.\r
\r
Works with the vanilla animals you already have, with no special dog to buy and no micromanagement. Each Animals at Work module works on its own. Requires Harmony. English and French are both included. Animal mod authors: see the end of this description.\r
\r
Also in the series: Plowing, Handy Monkeys.\r
\r
───────── Version française ─────────\r
\r
\r
CE QUE FONT LES CHIENS\r
\r
Chaque module Animals at Work fonctionne seul.
\r
Autres modules : Plowing, Handy Monkeys.\r
\r
───────── For animal mod authors ─────────\r
\r
There is nothing to patch. Herding carries the same requirements as vanilla hauling - obedience first, Advanced trainability, body size 0.4 and up - so any species that can already be trained to Haul can be trained to Herd. Body size is read from the animal at its current life stage, so a pup of an eligible species becomes trainable as it grows.
",187,[],[],null,[27
"9fa75b05-ffda-451b-bfdd-d6159c8e6d1d","animals-at-work-plowing","Animals at Work — Plowing","PUTTING AN ANIMAL TO WORK - You choose which animals work by turning on a task on the animal itself: Plowing, Cart hauling or Snow clearing.","https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3766198499","https://images.steamusercontent.com/ugc/11320004969860293402/8F57CF9938F6A773A9B227A960C312B88704EE6D/","royaltea.animalsatwork.plowing",[15,16],262,"2026-07-17T02:31:36.0000000Z","2026-08-06T23:11:16.0000000Z",[40,59,72,86
"66029291-97e1-4a29-943c-5ed35f3dbbf9","wall-light","Wall Light","As of update 1.5, Rimworld now contains wall lamps that serve the same purpose that this mod served for many, many years.
