Cartographer's Icons
Looking at the rainbow splattered vanilla map ๐๐ can be all kinds of confusing.
Looking at the rainbow splattered vanilla map ๐๐ can be all kinds of confusing. Who is an enemy and who is a friend? What kind of faction is that and why does it have a completely different icon to other variants of that faction? These are just some of the questions you may have found yourself asking.
Cartographerโs Icons has several aims:
โต Impart information simply and quickly to the player.
โถ Increase the visual consistency of icons.
โท Create an aesthetically pleasing map ๐จ.
Rimworld splits most factions into three attitudes:
โต Civil (Neutral)
โถ Rough (Hostile)
โท Savage (Always Hostile)
Cartographerโs Icons gives each different type of faction (e.g. Tribal, Outlander, etc) a consistent icon and then assigns them a colour based on their attitude:
๐ Civil
๐ Rough
๐ฟ Savage
Royals stand out as white as they are a special faction.
This helps at a glance to understand how friendly or hostile different areas of the map are. Icons are bolded with a black outline to better stand out.
You can use Cartographerโs icons with just the vanilla game. However Cartographerโs icons will also recognise if you have Royalty ๐ installed and change the Royalty factionโs icon and/or if you have many of the Vanilla Expanded Factions installed and change them too. It is fully compatible with 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.
Factions Cartographer's Icons currently effects:
- Tribal
- Outlander
- Pirate
- Royalty
- Vikings (Vanilla Expanded Faction)
- Medieval (Vanilla Expanded Faction)
- Settlers(Vanilla Expanded Faction)
Please make sure that Cartographer's Icons is loaded after any faction mods or it will not correctly change the icons for those mods.
