About

This mod adds a new gameplay mechanic – Education for your colonists. Education represents a pawn’s overall level of intellectual development and systematic thinking, and is not directly tied to any specific skills. Educated colonists learn more efficiently and are capable of understanding and researching more advanced technologies, but they will also have higher expectations regarding their living conditions.

There are 6 education levels in total:

Uneducated: The colonist possesses almost no education and can only comprehend the most primitive technologies and concepts. More advanced scientific disciplines remain inaccessible to them.
Primary: The colonist possesses a primary education and understands the basic principles of craftsmanship, labor organization, and simple machinery. Only relatively primitive technologies are accessible to them.
Basic: The colonist possesses a solid general education and understands the fundamentals of industry, engineering, and applied sciences. Most industrial-era technologies are accessible to them, though advanced scientific theories remain too complex.
Higher: The colonist possesses a higher education and is well-versed in complex scientific disciplines and modern technologies. Advanced spacer-era technologies are accessible to them for both understanding and development.
Academic: The colonist possesses exceptional academic training and deep knowledge across multiple scientific fields. Ultratech concepts and cutting-edge research are accessible to them, unlike for most other people.
Elite: The colonist belongs to the intellectual elite and possesses knowledge comparable to the greatest minds of the nearby worlds. Even the most advanced archotech technologies and nearly incomprehensible scientific principles are accessible to them.

Pawn Education

If an ideology encourages education, educated pawns will receive mood bonuses, while the uneducated will suffer penalties.

Pawn Ideology

These education levels determine which technologies a colonist is capable of researching, from neolithic technologies all the way up to archotech-level technologies.

How to gain education?

A pawn's starting education level is determined primarily by their faction of origin. Starting education can also be influenced by scenarios and backstories (pending patches).

Faction Education

To increase education, colonists must attend lessons conducted by more educated pawns. Such learning requires a free teacher-researcher and a student-learner.

Schedule

Educating

You may capture a suitable teacher from another faction or use the Empire's privilege system to obtain a temporary instructor.

Royalty Privilege

Additionally, you can use a new ritual: Lesson – to provide an immediate education boost to a group of colonists.

Preparing for the Lesson

Lesson Ritual

Children will also gain education as they grow up if colonists conduct lessons for them.

Children Growing Up

Reading books can also be used to combat illiteracy, but it can only increase education up to the Basic level. Furthermore, the bonuses from research books are inactive if the reader's education level is too low.
