Malnutrition Reworked

Starvation stops being a quick death and becomes a slow decline into weakness and collapse.

How it works

  • Malnutrition takes three times longer to reach maximum severity.
  • Penalties build the whole way down instead of arriving all at once.
  • No instant blackout at Extreme. Pawns need far more rest and pass out often.
  • Death is a rolling chance once a pawn reaches Extreme, not a fixed severity threshold.

The five stages

  • Trivial Slower research and mining, weaker immune response.
  • Minor Rest drains faster, work slows further, easier to knock down in a fight.
  • Moderate Consciousness drops, so everything gets slower and clumsier.
  • Severe Frequent exhaustion and collapse, heavy work and combat penalties.
  • Extreme Barely functional, passing out constantly, and can die at any point.

Latest update

Stage values were resetting between stages instead of carrying over, so some penalties quietly disappeared as a pawn got worse.
  • Research and mining now scale through all five stages. They were missing entirely at Severe and Extreme.
  • Talking, social fight chance and blood filtration continue past the stage that introduced them.
  • Work penalties use factors instead of offsets, so Severe and Extreme no longer play identically against the 10% stat floor.

Compatibility

RimWorld 1.1 through 1.6. XML only, no assemblies. Safe to add to a running save.
Note: removing it mid save can instantly kill badly malnourished pawns, because vanilla treats severity 1 as lethal.

Built for harsher survival, better storytelling, and starvation that actually feels like starvation.
