Never Quit!

Ever HATED having to start over after losing your entire colony?

Ever wanted to keep playing on the same perfect world even after your colony's story ended?

Ever gotten bored of the same settlement and wanted to start fresh without losing your legacy?

Welcome to Never Quit.

Never Quit lets you retire your colony at any point, anywhere, and anytime.

Instead of your colony simply disappearing, your settlement becomes its own independent faction.

Your former colonists continue their story without you. They build their own future, make their own choices, and become a part of the world you created.

You can:

  • Retire your colony and start a brand new one.
  • Return to your old settlements and discover what became of them.
  • Encounter your former colonists as their own faction.
  • Create a new beginning while keeping your old world alive.

But be careful...

The first week after retirement are dangerous.

Your former colony is still unstable. Visiting too soon may not end well...

"We warned you."

What happens if I retire an empty colony?

Retiring a colony without any colonists left behind can lead to unexpected results.

They may:

  • Rebuild themselves under a new identity.
  • Join another faction and continue their story elsewhere.
  • Disappear into history.

Not every colony gets a happy ending.

Features

  • Retire colonies without ending your world.
  • Former colonies become independent factions.
  • Visit and interact with your old settlements.
  • Custom character creation when starting your next colony.
  • Scenario support.
  • Dynamic faction stories and events.
  • Keep your world feeling alive long after you leave.

Performance

Performance is extremely lightweight.

Never Quit does not constantly simulate retired colonies.

It only performs lightweight checks once every minute to monitor important changes, keeping performance impact extremely low.

FAQ

Q: Why are there random colonists alongside my original colonists?

This is simply a vanilla RimWorld behavior that I unfortunately cannot control.

When RimWorld generates a settlement, it will automatically create additional defenders alongside your original colonists.

Since RimWorld is a storyteller game, just use your imagination! Maybe your former colony accepted refugees, rescued survivors, recruited wanderers, or simply grew over time after you left.

Rather than fighting RimWorld's hardcoded behavior, Never Quit embraces it as part of your colony's continuing story.

Q: Can this mod act as a "new save" when adding mods that would normally break gameplay?

Yes, in most cases.

Since Never Quit allows you to start a new colony while keeping your existing world alive, it can act as a safer transition point when adding new mods that would normally affect your current colony.

However, this only applies if the mod does not change or require changes to the existing world map.

Mods that heavily alter world generation, world tiles, or existing world data may still require a completely new save.

Q: Why is my old colony completely different when I visit it?

This would be a very difficult feature to implement properly.

For the old colony to continue growing exactly as if you were still playing it, the mod would need to constantly simulate the colony, improve defenses, manage resources, and track everything happening while you are away.

This would heavily impact performance and would most likely cause compatibility problems with other RimWorld mods.

Since Never Quit is designed to be lightweight and extremely mod-friendly, fully simulating retired colonies would go against the main goal of the mod.

Maybe this could become an experimental feature in the future... who knows.

Your colony's story doesn't have to end.

Sometimes the greatest colonies are the ones you leave behind.
