“Make your colony sound like a place worth living.”

The inspiration for this mod came from an ordinary night. A friend was streaming Stardew Valley, with soft music playing in the background. The gentle ambient sounds and UI effects of Stardew Valley blended naturally with the music. That calm, soothing audio atmosphere suddenly gave me an idea: What if RimWorld could feel like this too? However, the original sound design of RimWorld leans heavily toward tension, apocalypse, and sci-fi intensity. Alarm sounds and mechanical UI click effects constantly remind the player: “This is a survival game.” The goal of Project Pastoral is to gradually replace these overly tense and sci-fi-heavy audio elements, making your colony sound more like a place that could truly be lived in.

Part 1 — Ambient Overhaul (Current)

Focused on reworking environmental audio. Currently reworked: Wind sounds Rain sounds Thunder sounds These changes aim to make the environment feel more realistic, enhancing immersion and the overall atmosphere of life within the colony.

Planned Part 2 — UI & Notification Overhaul

Will rework: UI sound effects Various notification sounds The overall direction will be softer and more relaxed, reducing the overly mechanical and tense feel of the original game.

Planned Part 3 — Weapon Sound Overhaul

Plans to overhaul all firearm sound effects. Some weapons may adopt a more suppressed, muffled audio style so that gunfire feels less harsh and more balanced overall. This mod is suitable for players who enjoy lower difficulty, relaxed farming, city-building gameplay, or medieval-style playthroughs. It can be installed or removed at any time and is not expected to conflict with other mods.
