Red Rising - Total Conversion

A total conversion mod bringing the universe of Pierce Brown's Red Rising series to RimWorld. I made this mod just for myself, but I figured I'd throw it up here so you guys can enjoy it (and find bugs). I tried to make things as lore-accurate as possible. Obviously, the lore breaks down a little bit since RimWorld is a lone, far-off planet outside the Solar System, but the vibes are there. Break the chains, or rule with an iron-gold fist.

πŸ”₯ New in v1.1!

  • The Rim Dominion: A The Moon Lords has entered the fray to contest The Society, bringing a custom Gold Rivalry system with them.
  • Three New Rituals: Settle grudges with Honorable Duels, earn the Peerless Scar, or Scourge your prisoners and slaves.
  • Baseliner Overhaul: Hardcoded vanilla pawns now spawn dynamically across all 14 Colors instead of defaulting to Red

🧬 The Colors & Genetics

  • Custom Xenotypes: Xenotypes for all 14 Colors of the Society's caste system. Reds are smaller than other castes. Golds and Obsidians are larger and faster.
  • Universal Color Spawning: Vanilla baseliners have a random chance to spawn as any of the 14 Color castes.
  • Natural Peerless Generation: Any Gold generated in the world has a 15% chance to automatically spawn as a Peerless Scarred, complete with layered xenotype stats and a facial scar hediff.
  • Lore-Accurate Naming: Each pawn has their proper caste prefix injected before their last name (e.g., au, cu, ti), including RimWorld's core backer pawns. Some castes don't actually have prefixes named in the books, so I added some that felt right. (Note: LowColors like Obsidians, Browns, and Pinks do not have prefixes).

πŸ›οΈ Custom Factions & High Houses

Interact with custom, somewhat lore-accurate factions with tweaked population ratios to fit the vibes of the Solar System:
  • The Society & The Rim Dominion: In this alternate Rimworld lore, The Moonlords of the gas giants have seceded! These two Gold factions are locked in a bitter cold war over this rimworld. Both generate dynamic Roman/Gold House names (e.g., House Bellona) and feature custom imperial ranks (from Auxiliary up to Sovereign Consul).
  • Gold Rivalry: Gaining goodwill with one Gold faction reduces relations with the other. Allying with or accepting a royal title from one side turns the other into a permanent enemy until all rival titleholders are dead and the alliance is broken. Play both sides, pick a banner, or destroy them both.
  • Obsidian Tribes: All tribals are Obsidian.
  • The Syndicate & Free-Color Enclaves: Acting as your rough and gentle industrial factions.
  • Red Legion: A ruthless pirate faction.

🎭 Ideoligions & Rituals

I built custom Ideoligions for each faction (The Society, Red Religion, Red Legion, Obsidian Pantheon, and Ascomanni-Eaters). This includes the Martial Honor meme, which governs the Duelist precept and ritual:
  • Peerless Scarred Promotion: Tied to the Scarification precept. Earning the rank of Praetor grants a Gold thier scar. Alternatively, there is a custom promotion ritual. You can decide if your pawn has truly earned their Peerless Scar.
  • Honorable Duels: Unlocked by the Duelist precept. Let them settle it in the bleeding place. Golds and Obsidians with this precept will develop a need to duel their rivals (pawns with an Opinion of -25 or lower) once a year.
  • Scourging: Governed by the Corporal Punishment: Public Flagellation precept. Scourge a prisoner or slave to lock suppression at 100% for a week. If the ritual fails or the pawn dies, they become a martyr, capping global slave suppression at a dangerous 35% maximum for a week.
Setup Instructions: To bypass some modding headaches, the mod will automatically copy these Ideoligions into your personal RimWorld "saved" folder when you load the game. To use them: 1. Start a New Game and reach the Configure Ideology screen. 2. Click on the faction you want to edit at the bottom of the screen. 3. Click "Load Saved" and grab the matching Red Rising ideology. (Note: You'll probably need to turn on Dev Mode on this screen to bypass some vanilla restrictions when loading them). Alternatively, you may find them in the mod's `churches` folder.

πŸ› οΈ Notes & FAQ

Q: Why do all the vanilla xenos change to the Red Rising xenos when I select them in a new game? A: Because I couldn't figure out how to stop vanilla xenos from sneaking in during various events and raids. So vanilla xenos effectively don't exist in this mod. Q: Mod Compatibility? A: No idea. Q: Save game compatible? A: You can certainly try. Q: Isn't there already a Red Rising mod? A: I am aware of it, but I had some different ideas than that mod so I decided to make my own. Feedback & Bugs: Drop any bug reports or balancing thoughts in the discussions below. I may or may not heed them, depending on if I feel like it. There are probably a lot of things within RimWorld I missed to make lore-accurate, I will try to fix them. (Maybe) Planned Features:
  • Custom pawn backgrounds (Obsidian Slave Knight, Helldiver, Gold Lancer, etc.)
  • Custom Faction bases
  • Custom empire faction colors
  • Custom quests and/or events/raids
This is a single-player game, and the way I play is an expectation of some RP, but you can all do as you like. Have fun!
