BEFORE YOU READ THE MOD'S DESCRIPTION:

This mod is in Beta, which means that there might be bugs that I haven't found yet or functionalities of the mod that I'm aware of, but that I haven't checked yet. If the mod sucks in general, it's because I couldn't find any way to make it more interesting (I'm not really creative). Also, I've put a file in the mod's folder with the list of all the images' links that I've used to make this mod, in accordance to their copyright terms.

ROMAN SLAVERY

Roman Slavery is a Rimworld mod that simulates the slavery rules and systems of the Roman Empire. Your colonists can have personal slaves that are bound to them and that become personal properties of that specific colonist. Most of the information about the roman slavery system to create the mod have been collected from Wikipedia, but any suggestion, especially if supported with some historical documents or studies, will be considered to remodel the mod. Some other mechanics that are not directly related to slavery have been changed to avoid workarounds (for example, personal slaves that are able to arrest their owners), but if you want some of these options to be actually available, then I can do it. I'm making the mod for you, after all.

FEATURES LIST:

  • When a colony imprisons someone, he becomes the personal slave of the last person that tried to enslave him.
  • If a personal slave gets imprisoned, his former owner looses his ownership. The same goes if the slave gets kidnapped or dies.
  • The slave suppression has a 5%-10% intimidation buff, based on the slave's relations with the owner, when the owner intimidates the slave. The friendlier the owner is with the slave, the more effective intimidation is.
  • Personal slaves can romance other slaves if they're properties of the same owner, but they can't marry. Every child born from a female slave automatically becomes property of the owner.
  • If a colonist gets imprisoned while being innocent, he can only be recruited. If this happens while being guilty, he can be enslaved within 15 days from their arrest. If the 15 days cool-down expires, recruitment will be the only option. If a personal slave gets arrested while being innocent, if he gets re-enslaved, he becomes the personal slave of the former owner, unless the owner dies during his slave's staying in the colony's prison.
  • Every slave's ownership can be reassigned through a rite. The rite's cool-down is of 30 days.
  • Slaves can be freed from their owners, but only after two years.
  • If an owner of some slaves dies, they become vanilla slaves, unless the owner has a spouse or kids: the spouse inherits the slaves. If the spouse is absent, their kids inherit the slaves. If there's more than one child the oldest male child inherits the slaves. If there's no male child, the oldest female child inherits the slaves. If an owner of slave dies without a spouse or kids, even if they have siblings, the slaves become vanilla slaves. Inheritance doesn't apply if the spouses and kids are arrested.
  • Personal slaves can't be sold (this is not historical, but it's to balance the pros of having personal slaves [not that there's much to balance actually, I might remove this in the future]).
  • The owner can have lovin' with his slaves, but if the owner has a lover or a spouse, a -10 opinion about the owner will be applied to the lover or spouse, every time lovin' happens.
  • The owner can marry the slave if the owner wants to, but the slave will become a freed person and he can't be re-enslaved by the former owner, unless they divorced.
  • In Dev mode, you can assign or remove someone from the role of personal slave ("add/remove personal slave"). If you click on a personal slave, it automatically removes his owner. If you click on an owner-less slave, it will let you choose the new owner, by choosing one of your colonists.

KNOWN BUGS:

• If you have both one slave and one colonist in your bed, if you change the bed type from colonist to slave or viceversa, the game automatically unassigns the bed to both pawns. It will be fixed very soon.

FAQs:

Is this mod compatible with other mods?

As I said in the beginning of the description, this mod is in Beta and I'm not sure if it's compatible with other mods. If your mods are XML-only, then they should be fine, but, if your mods change some vanilla mechanics, then there might be some incompatibilities. You can report them, so that I'll be able to work on them.

Which mechanics does your mod change?

It changes matrimony, imprisonment, some enslavement mechanics, emancipation, the baby-to-child growth, arrest and marketability of personal slaves. Any mod that doesn't alter these mechanics should work fine, but for most of them, not much is changed.

Is this mod CE compatible?

Please stop asking this I see it EVERYWHERE, I dream about this every night please have mercy I have not tested it, but it should be compatible, since my mod doesn't change anything about combat mechanics.

What is special about this mod?

If you've played the mod, you could have noticed that there actually isn't much stuff. It looks like it makes the game more difficult, because personal slaves can't do much more than vanilla slaves. Maybe they do even less. The reason is because Roman slaves weren0t really capable of doing much, unless they were property of rich people. Any suggestion to make this mod more interesting is much appreciated. I'm already thinking about integrating some other mods, to make this one more interesting.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO EDIT THE MOD

Can I make a fork of your mod?

If you want to edit the mod on your own and then publish it as a fork, please ask it in the comment section, so that I can make the changes for you. It's not that I care about my work, but I just don't want to see hundreds of mods with the same name that do the same thing of the original mod or some small changes that I could just assimilate to the original mod. Obviously, you can edit the mod without permission, if you intend to play it locally and you can distribute it everywhere with your changes without permission, if it's not inside of Steam. Anyways, you can do a fork of my mod on Steam if I don't answer in the comment section within 3 months, because if I'm absent for so much time, it probably means I completely abandoned Steam.
