The Fungi Forest is now built into Tribal Fungi Core and into Fungi Lite. If you run either of those, you do not need this mod, and you should unsubscribe or disable it. All three ship the same biome now, so running two of them together produces duplicate definitions. They are marked incompatible with each other for that reason. This mod is for people who want the forest and none of the Fungi tribes. It runs completely on its own. Tribal Fungi Core is no longer required, and no biome library is needed either.

Adds a strange biome to the world, and maybe more of them in the future.

Background

Nearly every plant here has grey leaves. The ground is threaded through with mycelium, and it feeds the whole forest, so chloroplasts stopped being worth the trouble. Over enough generations the green simply drained out. Grey and red run the place now. Giant mushrooms push up through the mycelium and yield more edible fungus than anything has a right to, and between them stand bushes made of meat and trees that are, in every sense that matters, alive. For a long time the forest belonged to a strange marriage of animal and mushroom, and to the enormous worms that hunted them. Then the Fungi arrived. Mutated out of human stock and never allowed to forget it, they hate humanity with a purity that leaves no room for argument. In the mind of a Fungi, a human ranks somewhere below an animal. They caught them, and they experimented, and not everything they made stayed in the pens. Some of it got loose. Some of it thrived. Those things live in the forest now, part of its food chain like anything else. They still resemble people, more than you would like. Where the mind used to be there is only instinct. Some tribes say that nobody who walks into the forest walks back out. They call it the cursed forest, and they do not go looking to test it.

What you get

- The Fungi Forest biome, with its own terrain, weather and diseases - 21 animals, from mushroom worms and pack beasts to things that used to be people - 13 plants, including giant mushrooms, meat bushes and living trees - Mod settings to switch the biome and the body horror wildlife on or off

Mod settings

Under Options, Mod Settings, Tribal Fungi Biome. Body horror is on by default. It covers the humanoid growths and the living body parts: the things the Fungi made out of people. Switch it off and the forest keeps its fungal plants and animals and loses the rest. Nothing else changes. Fungi forest biome switches the biome placement itself off, if you want the mod loaded but the world clean. Both settings apply to newly generated worlds. A world you are already playing is not rewritten.

How the biome is placed

The forest no longer relies on BiomesKit or ReGrowth. It places itself with its own Perlin noise pass, which means it grows in connected regions rather than being sprinkled across the map one tile at a time. Fewer moving parts, and one less mod that can fall out of date.

Compatibility

Incompatible with Tribal Fungi Core and Fungi Lite, since all three now ship the biome. Pick one. If you find any other incompatibility, or a bug, put it in the comments.

"Tribal Fungi Core" if you want the tribes as well. The biome comes with it.
