Beta Disclaimer

I started with this mod over a year ago for a playthrough I never did. But since it was already much done I decided to finish it. I have never done a complete playthrough with this mod nor with the original vivi mod. That's why I consider this mod to be in beta state until proven otherwise. Please report if you find anything I forgot to patch or if you have suggestion for a better gene selection to represent the xenotype. Also please report any bugs so I can fix them.

Vanilla-Like Vivi (BETA)

Vivi Race is a mod with some very cool mechanics. Sadly its clashing visually with the vanilla rimworld art and i prefer a cohesive art style if possible. Also custom bodies mean I can't use other apparel/armor from mods. So this is a patch to turn the vivi race into humans while preserving their abilities by tying them into genes instead. This should hopefully give them compatibility with other hair, head, apparel, and cosmetic mods while trying to keep everything that makes Vivis unique. It also makes it possible to use vivis mechanics by non vivis via gene modding.

What Changes

I removed most constraints, so most vivi stuff is now gated by faction, genes or not gated anymore at all. Pawns & Appearance Vivis are now Human pawns with the Vivi xenotype applied. They use vanilla heads and hair, so any hair or face mod that works on humans will work on them too. Vivi-exclusive head shapes and hair styles are removed. Under the VEF Settings the apparel removel can be toggled off, if somehow you found a way to wear them with normal pawns. Xenotype & Genes The Vivi xenotype is patched with genes trying to replicate bonuses from their original race or offset metabolic costs: quick movement, heat tolerance, cold weakness, weak psychic sensitivity, and a thin body type. Four custom genes are added:
  • Vivi Physiology — This is the main vivi gene that makes the pawn compatible with all vivi mechanics usually reserved for royal vivis. It takes care of the royal jelly need, the metamorphosis into a royal vivi and the connection to the everflower. Also shrinks the pawn slightly.
  • Honey Gatherer — improved stats for harvesting honey and magical plants.
  • Cosmetic Wings — the Vivi wings with flight animations. Yes the flight feature works too.
  • Cosmetic Antenna — the Vivi antenna - purely cosmetic
  • Cream Maker — a marker gene that unlocks the Vivicream production recipe. Only pawns with this gene can make Vivicream, replacing the old race check.
  • Hive Mind: disables and shortens specific thoughts
Apparel All Vivi-specific clothing, hats, and implants (antenna/wing prosthetics and their surgical recipes) are removed. They simply didn't fit the vanilla body very well and it looked very weird. Vivis wear vanilla apparel instead. Apparel research is also removed. Buildings & Architect Menu All Vivi buildings, furniture, floors, and traps are moved into the standard vanilla architect tabs (Production, Furniture, Security, Structure, Floors, etc.). The custom Vivi architect tab is gone. -> This is mostly because im not a fan of mod specific building categories. Faction & Culture Patched the Vivi Federation to work with the now human race vivis. Lowered the combat power of the vivis since they are far weaker without their special apparel. Royal vivis will spawn with royal apparel if Royalty is installed.

Caveats

Not all stats of the original vivi race are transferred to the xenotype. This would have required much more gene juggling to offset the met costs and/or dependencies on other gene mods which i wanted to avoid. But i hope the differences are overall negligible. Since i removed the apparel, the vivi factions is limited to neolithic and medieval apparel. And there isnt really a lot in the basegame. As a consequence the faction is also far weaker since the buffs from their apparel is gone. At least they still have their weapons. I highly recommend installing mods containing medieval apparel Also they have the heavy tendency to spawn with parkas, since its neolithic clothing. Not intended but a side effect of too little apparel options in the base game.

Credits

gguake and engu for the Vivi mod. Thanks a lot for very cool mechanics. Vanilla Expanded Team for their framework. Without it some patches in this mod would have been way harder and more tedious.
