As above, So below 2
As above, So below II OPEN BETA.
As above, So below II
OPEN BETA. This is a public test build. It is solid enough to run a real colony start to finish, and it is not finished. Two things to know before you subscribe: most of the utility riser boxes still wear placeholder art, and cross level combat is partial, shooting down through an opening works but shooting upward does not draw yet. Everything else is in. Report anything you hit and it gets fixed.THERE ARE NO MULTI-LEVEL GRAVSHIPS, THERE WILL NEVER BE MULTI-LEVEL GRAVSHIPS
I don't like the gimmick of multi-level gravships and will NEVER add them to this mod. I don't know if other mods that add expandability to gravships will work. RimWorld is flat. As above, So below II stacks up to seven playable levels into one colony: three in the sky, the surface, and three of solid rock beneath it. They are not separate maps stitched together behind the scenes. They are bands of one real map, joined through the engine's own region system, so the game never learns the levels exist. It just finds a path. Your colonists haul, build, cook, sleep, clean and fight up and down the whole column.✦ Choose Your Column
- You pick the shape at colony start: how many levels above, how many below, and how big each one is.
- Every level shares one cell budget, so the chooser shows you the true stacked cost instead of hiding it. Seven small levels or two large ones, both fit.
- Sizes sit on the engine's efficient boundaries: 126 per level gives you the full seven, 190 gives you four, 254 gives you two. Nothing is wasted between them.
✦ One Workforce, No Micromanagement
Colonists cross levels on their own for hauling, construction, meals, rest, cleaning, medical treatment and recreation. Storage reaches across the column: a stockpile three floors up pulls goods up the stairs like any other stockpile. None of this is scripted. Connectivity is real to the engine, so anything that asks whether it can reach something simply can.✦ Getting Between Levels
- Ladder, one cell: cheap, cramped, traffic queues.
- Staircase, two by two: the baseline.
- Grand staircase, three by three: wide enough that colonists going up and down stop waiting for each other.
- Elevator, two by two: connects every level it reaches through one shaft, and colonists ride between any two directly.
✦ The Sky Levels
Where a mountain rises past the surface, real summit terrain generates above it: plateaus, meadows, bare stone and ore, seeded with vegetation from your own biome that regrows naturally. Roof a room and its rooftop becomes a walkable, buildable surface on the level above. Stack a wall on a wall and structures rise floor by floor.✦ The Basement Levels
Solid mineable rock, waiting. Carve a bunker, a freezer, a prison, a vault. Ore gets richer the deeper you go, roughly half again as dense per level down. With Biomes! Caverns installed the basement generates instead as a living cave system with cave flora, wildlife, stalagmites and crystals, sealed in the dark until you break through.✦ A Living View Below
From a sky level you look down through open air at the actual surface: live colonists, buildings, items, even construction in progress, drawn with the game's own materials rather than a flat picture. Deeper levels recede with a depth falloff you can tune or switch off. Unexplored ground stays hidden. Roofs read as roofs.✦ Climate By Altitude
- Each level carries its own temperature offset and wind, set when the colony is created, so an existing settlement never re-climates under you.
- Three presets: Gentle, where the peak is merely cold. Standard, where the second level up is the seasonal snow line. Alpine, where only the surface is comfortable.
- Height is exposed, depth is stable: wind climbs with altitude, and the basement never sees any.
✦ Power And Pipes Between Levels
- A junction box and a breaker box, both mounted inside a wall, in the same cell one level apart. Build the pair and the two networks merge and pool.
- One junction serves three levels, bridging to a partner one level up and one level down.
- The breaker carries the switch. Flick it to cut the link without deconstructing anything.
- Fifteen networks in total across vanilla power and six supported mods, each named for what it carries: a plumbing stopcock, an air duct damper, an oil gate valve, a steam isolator, a chemfuel shutoff, a pressure relief valve.
✦ Camera And Controls
Switch levels with Ctrl and the scroll wheel or with a keybind, and the camera lands on the exact spot one level up or down instead of dumping you at the map centre. An optional free panning mode lets you sweep past the edge of a level and see it floating in the void.✦ Honest Performance
- No patches on reachability, pathfinding or region code. The systems performance mods care about are untouched.
- Map generation costs a few seconds, typically under four. You are generating several levels, after all.
- Per system kill switches: if one subsystem errors it logs once, turns itself off and names what it was doing. The rest of the mod and all of vanilla keep running.
✦ Plays Nicely With Your Mods
- Biomes! Caverns: the basement becomes a real cavern biome, fully integrated.
- Dubs Bad Hygiene: plumbing and air ducts cross levels.
- Rimefeller: oil crosses levels.
- Rimatomics: cold water, steam, coolant, high voltage and loom all cross levels.
- Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded: chemfuel and deepchem.
- Vanilla Temperature Expanded: vents.
- Luciferium Expansion: sludge, pressure and mechanite.
- Better Mountains and Medieval Overhaul: rock rendering and formations verified against both.
- Map Preview, Dubs Mint Minimap, Geological Landforms, Vanilla Landmarks Expanded: handled, so the preview and the minimap show your colony rather than a sliced column.
Seems to be an on-going bug with Geological Landforms causing weirdness with River generation
This can also cause weirdness with ancient mechs.✦ Requirements
- Harmony (brrainz.harmony), the only dependency.
- RimWorld 1.6.
✦ Not Compatible With
- The original As above, So below. This replaces it. It is a ground up rearchitecture of the same idea, one banded map instead of stacked pocket maps, and running both would give one colony two competing level models.
- MultiFloors, Z-Levels, Strata: different vertical stacking mechanisms that cannot share a colony.
