☕ Comforts

Every pawn on the rim wants something. The chocolate they'd kill for. The duster in exactly the right shade. The sword that feels like an old friend. The chess board after a long day. Comforts gives every pawn a personal set of tastes and wants — and minor mood buffs when life delivers, with a sting when it doesn't.

No grind, no micromanagement: just colonists who feel like people.

✦ What They Want

Every humanlike rolls a deterministic personal profile — same pawn, same tastes, every time, with zero save data:
  • Food — two favorites and one disliked food. Eating a favorite (or a meal cooked with it): +3 for a day. The hated one: −3.
  • Apparel — two liked pieces of gear, plus a liked color. Wearing liked gear: +2 — in their color: +3.
  • Weapons — a melee/ranged leaning and two specific liked weapons (+2 carried). Strongly opinionated pawns suffer −2 stuck with the wrong class.
  • Recreation — two favorite kinds of joy. Doing one: +2 for most of a day.

Traits shape everything: Gourmands love three foods and hate none, Ascetics don't care, Nudists skip apparel, Brawlers demand melee, Cannibals… you know.

✦ See It At A Glance

With Modern Needs Tab, every preference is an icon — text at a minimum:
  • Food & Recreation cards grow per-item glyph strips: a candy for chocolate, a bowl for meals, a chess pawn, a lotus… Green = had it lately. Red = the disliked one. Dim = waiting.
  • A Comforts card gathers everything with no backing need — gear, color, weapons, and every mod-driven want — with a satisfied counter and two icon rows.
  • Hover any icon: what they want, and how long since they last had it.
  • Open any card for plain-language explanations of every bonus.

No Modern Needs Tab? No problem. A vanilla Comforts need bar appears instead — its level is the fraction of wants satisfied, with the same tinted icons drawn right on the bar.

✦ It Reads Your Other Mods

All integrations are soft — nothing here is required, everything is detected:
  • Vanilla Aspirations Expanded — aspirations become cravings: a pawn dreaming of getting blackout drunk craves beer; a future bladelink wielder eyes persona weapons.
  • Ideology — their favorite color becomes the liked color; liked weapons lean toward the ideoligion's noble weapons. Preachers gain +2 for spreading the word (Spread The Word prisoner preaching counts).
  • Ideology Leadership Expanded — ambitious pawns want a role: +1 while they hold one. Win the election.
  • RimPsyche — personality-driven interests become likes; conversations about them give +1.
  • Pawn Chronicles — their story shapes their wants: scholars like reading, the faithful preach, leaders hunger for roles, animal friends love nature… and pacifists hate carrying weapons.
  • Isekai RPG Leveling — everyone wants to level: +2 on a level-up.
  • Itemization Overhaul — loot lovers get +1 wielding Legendary+ gear.
  • Beautiful Outdoors / Snow IS Beautiful — nature lovers get +1 keeping their outdoors need high.
  • RJW — an intimacy want tracks their needs (display only — mood stays RJW's business).

Modded foods, apparel, weapons and joy kinds all classify into the icon groups automatically — no patches needed.

⚙ Numbers At A Glance

Buffs +1 to +3, debuffs −2 to −3, durations half a day to a day. Small enough to never dominate the mood game, real enough to make "she finally got her chocolate" a story beat.

☰ Requirements & Compatibility

  • Requires: Harmony. Nothing else.
  • Optional: everything listed above — every integration is reflection-based and degrades silently.
  • Save-safe to add. No save data at all — preferences regenerate deterministically. Removing mid-save costs one harmless warning.
  • Performance-friendly: cached profiles, hourly mod bridges, one-second UI caches.
