Cables and Plumbing - Spliced & Wyed

Cables and Plumbing - Spliced & Wyed mod preview for RimWorld

This is a forked version of the original Cables and Plumbing mod by MedicalPol, aiming at further compatibility, improvements and perhaps even a bit of expansion on its content.

The name is a joke with two common ways of talking about forking a cable (splicing) and forking a pipe (wyeing, like the letter "Y")

FIXES UPON THE ORIGINAL MOD

Other than bringing the mod to 1.6 and updating its outdated list of dependencies, I've also added localization support for the entire mod, re-organized its structure (now using LoadFolders.xml for compatibility and such) and improved some descriptions/typos. I've also fixed some patches that were missing, like underground neutro pipes.

COMPATIBILITY LIST

This is a list of mods that have added compatibility with Cables and Plumbing! The list is essentially the same as the original mod with some new additions and a few removals (mods that were never updated to 1.6 or not needed anymore)

For mods adding materials, the changes are that these materials can be used for plumbing and/or cables. Like the metals from Expanded Materials, Bronze from VFE - Classical or Iron from Medieval Overhaul.

For mods adding networks, the compatibility involves changing the building costs of these networks. Specifically for the Milk Pipe Network mod I've also retextured the pipes since they were using the vanilla conduit texture.

CHANGES & NEW CONTENT

There's also a lot of new stuff!

- All conduits and plumbing/pipes are now stuffable, and you can craft pipes and cables out of different materials. Vanilla conduits have also been retextured.

- Cables are now divided in two categories, regular and high conductivity. Pipes are divided into three: weak, regular and strong. There is at least one vanilla material for each category, but you'll get more options if using Medieval Overhaul, Expanded Materials - Metals and/or Ultimate Concrete Patcher.

- There's also initial support for Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Factory! You may craft pipes, cables and everything else on the machining factory.

- There are two new standalone resources: Electrical Wiring and Heavy-duty Pipes. Electrical Wiring is used for crafting components, replacing some of the Steel cost. Heavy-duty Pipes is used by the biggest modded pipelines like Rimefeller and Dubs' Rimatomics.

FAQ

Safe to add/remove?
Safe to add, yes. And it's safe to replace the original mod (all original defs are preserved). Removing would be a bit catastrophic to your colony...

CE?
Try and let me know. But probably?

FUTURE PLANS

  • I'm thinking of adding one last craftable standalone material, some sort of "Underground shielding" to replace the very generic Steel most recipes use as an addition to underground networks.
  • Support to VFE-Factory is very limited and you can't really craft all different types of pipes and cables yet. I plan to address that soon-ish.
  • More materials if interest is found. Perhaps ceramic pipes?
  • I'm thinking of sprinkling some extra costs for certain buildings, like pipes and wirings for bigger, more complex machinery and such where it makes sense. It would also be nice to give a vanilla use to the heavy-duty pipes!

KNOWN ISSUES

  • None so far. But this is my second mod, so I expect trouble!
