Long Range Firefights
Vanilla RimWorld weapon ranges? Trash.
Your colonist grabs a sniper rifle and still misses a squirrel 10 tiles away. Disrespectful.
This mod increases weapon ranges so firefights actually happen at range, instead of two squads shuffling into spitting distance before anyone pulls a trigger.
Features
- Separate range multipliers for short, long, and very long weapons
- Grenades and turrets get their own multipliers, so you can tune them without dragging everything else along
- Go higher than vanilla. Go lower than vanilla. Nobody is stopping you
- Settings apply the moment you close the settings window, no restart needed
Default settings
Weapons are sorted into tiers by their vanilla range, then multiplied:
- Base range above 60 → 2x (Long Long Range Factor)
- Base range above 24.5 → 2x (Long Range Factor)
- Base range 24.5 or below → 2x (Short Range Factor)
- Thrown grenades → 1x, untouched (Grenade Range Factor)
- Turrets → 1x, untouched (Turret Range Factor)
Every one of those is a slider in the mod settings.
About turrets
Turrets are left alone by default now. They used to inherit whatever you set for pawn weapons, which is a quick way to make your defenses behave in ways you did not ask for. If you want longer turrets, there is a dedicated slider for it.
Mortars and other artillery are never touched at all. They already reach across the entire map by design, and retiering them only breaks them.
New in the 1.6 rework
- Long range accuracy fixed. Vanilla stacks an exponential distance penalty on top of the weapon's own accuracy stat, and that curve is tuned for roughly 40 tiles. That is why snipers were landing 8% shots at 60 tiles. The falloff is now capped, so long range stays worth using. Turrets run through the same formula and benefit too
- Turrets got their own multiplier instead of inheriting pawn weapon settings
- Grenade launchers and rocket launchers are tiered like the guns they are, instead of being lumped in with thrown grenades
- Mortars and artillery are no longer retiered
- Sliders snap to clean steps, so you can actually land on 4.00 instead of 3.99
- Settings that previously did nothing now work
Requirements
- 1.6 requires Harmony
- HugsLib is no longer needed
- 1.2 to 1.5 are the original build, kept as-is for older saves. The rework above is 1.6 only
