Traveling on a gravship requires a lot of chemfuel. Cutting down trees all over the map and distilling them into chemfuel is a chore. Now, when dismantling a mechanoid, a small amount of chemfuel will drop, depending on the mechanoid's size. This won't cover all the chemfuel needs, but it's a nice bonus.
