The main reason is that every time I play, installing a peg leg and then removing it is too much of a hassle. Besides, the base game already has an "amputation" surgery — I see no reason to keep it hidden. Since the vanilla amputation surgery even covers fingers, you can recreate some Qing dynasty tortures here (W). Of course, if you feel that
RimWorld's base game does have an amputation surgery, but it requires certain conditions to appear:
(Condition 1: A prosthetic part is installed. Condition 2: The body part is removable — not a core part (e.g., brain, heart, neck — these have special code and cannot be selected for amputation). Condition 3: The part has a negative condition, such as a scar or a disease — for example, the vanilla "infection" can actually be cured by amputation.) For example, when playing with the "苦痛美德Pain is virtue" meme and performing the "疤痕仪式Scarification" ritual, the "remove part" option appears.
This mod simply modifies the vanilla amputation surgery to ignore those conditions and always show up, so most race mod characters can also use it — they follow the same logic. The downside is that some race mods define too many body parts, making the surgery menu overly long and messy.
Similarly, because this mod tweaks the vanilla "amputation (Amputate)", when you use a race mod and have its translation installed, the part names will display correctly.
One more note: This mod does apply the "My organ harvested" debuff. In vanilla, the two surgery names "Amputate" and "Remove" change dynamically: if the part has a permanent injury, it shows "Amputate"; if the part is perfectly healthy, it shows "Remove". Removing a healthy organ gives the "organ harvested" negative mood debuff, while amputation does not.
