Bring the magnificent birds of coastlines and wetlands to your colony!
This entry in the More Birds series populates your beaches, marshes, and riverbanks with a diverse collection of water-loving avian fauna. From small, frantic shorebirds darting across the sand to towering, majestic waders hunting out in the shallows, these birds add visual depth and realism to your colony's waterways. Whether hunting them for their meat, harvesting their beautiful feathers for high-status tribal apparel, or domesticating them as prestigious companions for your throne halls and royal menageries, these birds revitalize your map’s wetlands. What's a Shorebird?
"Shorebirds" belong to a wide array of coastal and wetland families, found on and around oceans, along coastlines, estuaries, inland marshes and riverbanks. Equipped with specialized bills—ranging from long, curved mud-probes to massive fish-scooping pouches—they are uniquely adapted to harvest the rich ecosystems where land meets water. Many of these birds are epic migrators, travelling thousands of miles and braving climate extremes to breed and raise young. The Avian Catalog
This mod introduces eight unique bird species, in two rough groups: The Waders and Swimmers (Water Seeking AI):- Cormorant: Heavy, webbed-foot diving birds. Famous for their signature low-profile "submarine" silhouette when hunting in rivers and oceans.
- Egret: Elegant, long-legged waders that stand frozen along muddy banks, waiting to spear prey. Their prized 'breeding plume' feathers are highly valued for high-society apparel accessories.
- Ibis: Highly prized ceremonial birds that probe deep into wetland mud in search of food. They are considered a massive status symbol and are restricted to exotic trade networks.
- Pelican: Large, buoyant, aquatic birds. Known for their large throat pouch and their love of resting on docks and piers. They often 'beg' fishermen to get free meals, though have never been domesticated.
- Spoonbill: Visually stunning waders that swing their unique bills side-to-side through shallow water to filter out nutrition. A highly valued, exotic luxury pet.
- Sandpiper: Frantic, miniature 'peeps' that run rapidly along the sand chasing the wave line, searching among the sand for buried invertebrates. They have a very wide range of climates due to their equatorial to polar migrations for breeding.
- Plover: The inland kin of the sandpiper. While they share a similar tiny silhouette, they tend to stay higher up on dry gravel flats, fields, and forests away from the crushing waves.
- Seagull: Opportunistic coastal scavengers. They can survive on open water although they tend to prefer staying near dry land, often near human habitations where they scavenge among scraps and detritus for easy food.
Features
- Reworked Bird Leather: Birdskin has been patched to accurately reflect the luxury use of feathers. No longer a junk textile, it serves as a high-value material needed to stitch together elite tribal wear and prestigious court ornaments.
- Sacred Ibis Mummy: Perform a ceremonial mummification ritual at a sculpting bench to preserve an ibis carcass in pristine linen and sacred resins. When placed in crypts or near sarcophagi this solemn monument boosts room beauty and accelerates psyfocus gain for morbid-focus colonists. Paintable to match your tomb-chamber aesthetic.
- Feathered Tribal Headdress, War Mask & Aigrette Hair Pin: Early-game apparel geared towards tribal playthroughs, or simply to bring a unique look to your Royal court. Give your colonists, warriors, and chieftains unique beautiful feathered headwear that affects social impact or warrior pain shock threshold. All are fully dyable.
- The Feather Banner: A majestic ceremonial standard that satisfies noble decoration demands. Banner poles like these have been used by many cultures to showcase an elegant, shimmering display of colorful feathers collected from valuable and important birds. Paintable to match your throne room aesthetic.
Mod Notes
NOT CE COMPATIBLE. I hate writing code and have asked on the CE discord for patches to my bird mods but nobody ever gets back to me. I'll update this if it happens. Should be compatible with pretty much anything else (let me know any issues so I can do my best to fix). Includes support for most popular biome mods. Please contact me if you would like me to add yours. There is one exception to this: My seagulls will not spawn in any of the "Biomes! Islands" islands or coasts; That author already has seagulls native to those biomes. The rest of my birds will spawn in them just fine. I highly recommend something like Camera+ to enjoy the colors and sounds of these animals. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=867467808Please Like and Favorite!
