Moto MO EM Patch

Moto MO EM Patch mod preview for RimWorld

This patch improves integration between Expanded Materials - Metals and Medieval Overhaul.

This patch improves integration between Expanded Materials - Metals and Medieval Overhaul.

You should still use Resource Dictionary to deconflict coal and iron ore. The patch should be agnostic to your choice, but this is needed to more broadly deconflict the two. The patch focuses on the following changes:

  • Adds a new technology after MO Steel to hold EM’s entry point for alloy furnaces, charcoal, and downstream alloy research.
  • Keeps bronze on Smithing: adds bronze bills to the MO Furnace, and adds missing bulk bronze recipes to match MO bulk categories.
  • Merges steel progression with MO: removes duplicate EM steel recipes. MO steel bills are now the steel path.
  • Moves mild steel to MO Steel research, rebalances it to MO-style ratios with less carbon than steel, and adds furnace/smelter bills.
  • Patches EM replacement recipes to use iron ingots instead of raw iron, matching MO’s iron progression.
  • Patches EM's charcoal into MO's fuel filters and charcoal pit.
  • Undoes EM’s steel texture change. This may be controversial, but MO follows an ore → ingot progression, so steel looking like raw ore instead of a manufactured product stood out. As a result, mild steel and steel look very similar.

Progression Note

This is primarily intended as a patch for EM into Ferny’s MO progression.

If that means nothing to you: welcome.

Ferny moves smelting to Neolithic and steel to Medieval, which places the new EM alloy technology in Industrial. If you are not using that progression, Medieval Overhaul places Steel and Smithing separately in Medieval, so progression may feel a little odd.

Known Issues

The new tech is not aligned to the default vanilla research tree. If you are using the vanilla research tree, consider YART instead. Ferny’s Node Research and others should also work fine.
