Starborn Apostles mod preview for RimWorld

Your tribe looked to the stars each night for guidance as they zig-zagged across the wildlands for generations.

Your tribe looked to the stars each night for guidance as they zig-zagged across the wildlands for generations. Following the constellations, the tribe's Windwhisperers sought the wisdom of their ancestors and prayed for answers to explain the strange phenomena of their world...

Then one night, the answer unmistakably came. You and the other three Skyguards on duty all saw it: a twinkle in the night sky that did not belong to any formation you'd ever been taught. It glittered and winked, but most of all, it grew. Before any of you could sound the drums, it was upon you.

The explosion rocked the camp as chunks of fire erpupted from the impact site, scattering tents and pack animals in equal measure. The shockwave knocked you from your makeshift watchtower a little ways from the main camp. A flicker of excitement in the face of the apparent carnage washed over you. What message had the Ancients sent?

What you saw upon returning to your home was impossible: the chieftain and the hut he'd been sleeping in were gone. In their place was a strange reflective sphere, taller than a man and wider than a muffalo. Fire still burned around it. Heat rushed by your face as if from the hotholes of the ground. The other Skyguards were close behind in silence, each enchanted by the object. The eerie cries from their dying families licked the air like the flames, echoing through the night.

A vapor began to emit from a small seam that lined part of the round and shiny object. With a hiss, a chunk of it burst upwards and away, quelling the fires nearest the decidedly holy relic. From the hole in the side emerged a wondrous being: a metalman of legend. The ancestors had seen us wandering! We'd read the stars faithfully and they sent this guide that we might find them!

By the time you and the Skyguard faithful had completed the worship ritual, the wailing of the village had fallen silent. The Answer whirred to life. He had no skin, only a coat of silver. He was not touched by the flames, nor the explosion that fell upon the chief. Though you didn't dare look him in his glowing eyes, you could feel his gaze. This world was still foreign to him, and you would be entrusted to show him your stars, that he might interpret them for you.

One day, you would find the land above the stars and hidden knowledge of your forefathers. So you left with what little you and the others could scrape from the smoldering village. You were four Skyguards...and the Answer! A reward to the faithful!

If only you had understood the language inscribed upon his back, which in the common tongue reads, "JaniTOR Biodisposal Droid 1.1." Unbeknownst to you, he was an industrial cleaning bot accidentally jettisoned while tidying up an escape pod. The low orbit canning freighter and his employers won't personally miss him, but they may attempt to recoup the costs of their escape pod snafu!
