The Painful Hell of New Venus
You won the lottery and embarked on a great adventure to paradise. Unfortunately your ship blew up from a faulty iPhone battery catching fire and you crashlanded on New Venus. With a toxic atmosphere, constant flashstorms and never ending heatwaves, you truely have found hell. But hey, at least you aren't alone on this world... Good thing you grabbed your hat.

Scenario Design Intent:
I’ve playtested it through a few times now and have tried to make a fun yet super challenging climate based hardship scenario that constantly keeps you on edge and forces you to think long and hard about trade offs. I enjoyed the challenge of Sea Ice but felt it was too boring. I wanted a climate based challenge that had many elements of Sea Ice but with more resources that were then limited by an outside environment so harsh that you would have to think twice about getting them versus just hunkering down and waiting for orbital traders.
To play this scenerio as it was intended and balanced for please use the following map settings:
-Choose minimum possible humidity and maximum possible temperature
-For maximum challenge choose hottest tile you can find, for more interesting and still challenging game choose a tile with a 20 day growing period. You won't be able to grow here once the heat waves start but the slightly cooler winter temps mean you will get more varied random events like manhunter packs, human raiders vs just aliens (since normal raiders can't take the heat), etc.
-Medium default map size. (Large map size will really screw you over this one).
-Permadeath (commitment mode) :)
New Venus features:
-Continuous flashstorms that jump all around the map creating constant unpredictable danger and a hellscape feeling with the never ending sound of thunder.
-A relentless persistent heatwave that keeps temperatures around 100 degrees Celsius for months at a time.
-A toxic Venus atmosphere that limits your time outdoors.
You will start with the exact same resources as “The Rich Explorer” except for the following:
-Pet removed
-Added synthread cowboy starter hat.
-Added 10 additional packaged meals due to 1.0 being harder to rush indoor growing and no orbital beacon at start.
-Wanderers joining removed. People don’t just wander around on the hellscape of New Venus...
FAQ:
Q. What can I do about all the annoying pop up messages for flashstorms?
A. Use the Autoclose Event Notification mod and set medium orange events to close after 4 hours and you shouldn't have to worry about them. As for the sound you actually get use to it and it gives the playthrough a persistent feel of being on edge of catastrophe which is what I was aiming for.
Q. Why didn’t you just use the permanent state setting for flashstorms to avoid the pop ups?
A. Because it’s currently broken. If you set a permanent state for flashstorms all it does is put a single flashstorm on one single spot for the entire game. This defeats the purpose and danger of having rotating unpredictable flashstorms.
Q. When do the hellish heatwaves start?
A. Approximately two and a half days in, and they will most likely never stop after that… So get ready.
Q. A bunch of raiders just attacked my base out of the blue and I had no warning, no notification, and the game didn't slow down like it should've. What happened?
A. Those most likely weren't raiders. Lightning from the storms probably destroyed a piece of wall from the sealed cryosleep chambers on the map and the pawns there are aggro and will attack once they wake up. In order to spot when this is about to happen keep an eye out for the "New Area Revealed" notification that seems to pop up for no reason. That usually means their chamber were just revealed and they will be waking up soon.
I welcome all comments, thoughts, and stories.
