The wisest negotiator never pays

The best deal is the one the other side doesn't even know they lost. Paying is for amateurs. Killing and raiding is for savages. The wisest negotiator just... takes it. This mod brings BG3-style pickpocketing straight into RimWorld. Visitors, trade caravans, lodging guests — one right-click sends your pawn to their pocket instead of the negotiating table.

How it works

  • Right-click a target → order Pickpocket
  • Your pawn approaches, then their inventory pops open (the trader's entire caravan stock, if they're a merchant)
  • Pick an item and see the target number and odds instantly
  • d100 roll with a dice-tumble animation — succeed and it slips quietly into your bag, fail and the whole group turns hostile

How the roll works

No skill checks. It's a pure body-to-body contest between thief and mark.
  • Target DC = 50 + value penalty + weight penalty — pricier, heavier loot is harder to lift
  • Thief's edge = Manipulation + Consciousness
  • Mark's defense = Consciousness + Sight + Hearing — a half-blind guest or a drunk merchant won't notice a thing
  • Every successful theft raises that target's alertness, making the next attempt harder
Fail, and there's no escalation, no warning — combat starts on the spot. Choose carefully.

I already have a negotiation mod — why do I need this?

If Smart Negotiator (my earlier mod) was about negotiating well, this one is about skipping the negotiation entirely. No haggling, no goodwill to manage — as long as they never notice. The two mods run on completely different philosophies, so they coexist without conflict: one works the table, the other works underneath it.

Compatibility

  • RimWorld 1.6 only
  • No Harmony, no dependencies — fully standalone
  • Safe to add/remove mid-save (alertness is session-only, never saved)

Settings

  • Skip-animation toggle — turn it off if repeated pickpocketing gets tedious

The wisest negotiator pays nothing, and neither kills nor raids — he just takes it.
