Knight and Squire Relationships BETA

Bring a proper knight-and-squire system to your colony, with progression that actually feels earned.

Bring a proper knight-and-squire system to your colony, with progression that actually feels earned.

This mod adds a full mentorship pipeline built around knighthood for RimWorld 1.5 and 1.6. Knights train squires, squires grow into knights, and over time you end up with a lineage of warriors that carry your colony forward.

Everything is managed through the Knighthood roster, accessible from a gizmo on any colonist. From there you can proclaim knights, track every squire’s progress, and hand out accolades. You’ll get alerts when a squire is ready, plus a letter the moment they match their mentor. Training radius, XP gain, requirements, and progression rules are all configurable in mod settings.

The system starts young. Knights can take on a Page (ages 7–13), who learns at their side—social skills, intellect, animals, melee, even a bit of artistic growth. At 14, that page becomes a Squire under the same mentor and starts taking on real responsibilities.

Squires aren’t just trainees, they’re soldiers. If their knight goes down in battle, they get a “Squire’s Duty” surge (boosted movement and dodge) and can instantly rush in to rescue them. Outside combat, they maintain their knight’s gear as a real job—sharpening weapons, fitting armor, and improving combat readiness. You can also order sparring sessions where both train together, or let them passively improve faster by fighting side by side.

To start, proclaim a colonist with 10+ melee or shooting as a knight, then assign them a squire. The relationship benefits both sides. Squires train faster, fight better, and gain confidence near their knight. In return, knights receive ongoing combat bonuses better accuracy, stronger melee performance, and improved armor handling—as long as they have a squire in service.

Progression is tracked with a custom gizmo. A squire earns their accolade by matching their knight’s skill levels (with some flexibility for disabled skills) and serving at least six days. When the moment comes, the knight formally bestows the accolade your squire kneels and rises as a knight, gaining a burst of experience and forming a lasting bond with their mentor. From there, they can take on squires of their own, creating a generational system inside your colony.

Relationships matter. Knights and squires build opinions, mood buffs, and social ties. Deaths, dismissals, and falling-outs are all handled with appropriate emotional consequences.

Fully Customizable via the Mod Options

- Just look for Knight & Squire

Knight Commander:

If a knight successfully trains multiple squires to knighthood (configurable, default is two), they can be elevated to Knight Commander. Commanders grant a passive aura to nearby members (+melee hit chance and dodge), boost overall morale, and can trigger a rally every two days for a temporary surge in speed and combat effectiveness. They’re marked clearly in the roster with a gold star.

Royalty Integration:

If you’re running Royalty or any mod using the royal title system, titled knights become stronger mentors. Their trainees learn faster, requirements are reduced, and successful accolades grant honor with the relevant faction. All of this is optional—disable it in settings if you want a more grounded experience.

Compatibility:

Should be compatible with everything as i tested this mod with a 200+ modlist
