Persona Weapon Persuasion
A persona weapon's traits are rolled once, when the weapon is created, and you are stuck with whatever you get.
A persona weapon's traits are rolled once, when the weapon is created, and you are stuck with whatever you get. A monosword that turns up with a psychic quiet and a rampant killthirst is the monosword you have forever. This mod gives you a way to argue with it, plus a use for persona cores beyond building the ship.
THE MATRIX RECALIBRATOR
A 3x2 machine unlocked by Machine persuasion - the vanilla ship research that already covers talking a persona core into cooperating, which turns out to work just as well on a weapon. No new research is added.
It is deliberately expensive: 250 steel, 100 plasteel, 10 gold, 8 advanced components, and a persona core.
The core is what does the work. The strange device cannot be instructed or asked what it intends: you are not configuring a machine, you are handing your weapon to something clever and getting it back changed.
Set a bill on it, a colonist carries a persona weapon over and loads it in, and the machine spends one full day negotiating with the weapon's onboard persona. The weapon floats in the tank while a scanner sweeps it, and when the machine finishes it drops the weapon at its interaction cell with a completely new set of traits.
It draws 750W while it is actually running and a trickle when idle. Cutting the power pauses the process rather than ruining it - the weapon sits inside until the lights come back on.
WHAT CHANGES AND WHAT DOES NOT
The weapon keeps its identity. Same weapon, same name, same quality, same hit points, and it stays bonded to whoever it was bonded to - recalibration rearranges the persona's opinions, it does not introduce a new persona. Only the traits are rerolled.
The number of traits stays the same. A weapon with three traits comes out with three traits, so this is a way to change your luck rather than to farm your way up to a maximally-loaded weapon. The new traits are drawn using the game's own generation rules, weighted by commonality and respecting the exclusion tags that stop a weapon rolling contradictory traits, so anything the recalibrator produces is something the game could have handed you in the first place.
There is no safety net. The reroll is genuinely random and it is perfectly capable of handing you something worse than what you put in. You can always run it again.
MOD SETTINGS
A list of every persona weapon trait in the game, each with a switch controlling whether the recalibrator is allowed to roll it. Turn off the ones you never want to see and the machine will simply never produce them.
The list is built from the game's def database when you open it rather than from a fixed list, so traits added by other mods appear on their own, grouped under the mod that added them, and are rollable by default. Only the traits you switch off are written to the settings file, which means a mod you add later starts out fully enabled and a mod you remove leaves nothing behind.
Requires Royalty for persona weapons themselves. Safe to add to an existing save. Removing it mid-save will complain about the building if you have one built - deconstruct it first.
